How the approval process works

We review itThe 30 Squares Team checks the idea is a good fit for a self-guided, informational trail. Approval is for this specific proposed trail only — it doesn't grant permission to create any other trail.

You get approvedA draft Explorer Trail is created for you and your Creator Dashboard unlocks — add detailed history, descriptions, photos and locations for up to 30 Squares.

Suggest a price, submit for reviewOnce your Squares are complete, propose a selling price and submit the trail for a final content review. The 30 Squares team gives final approval over the live price before it's published to players.

What makes a good Explorer Trail

  • ✓Detailed, genuine local knowledge — real history, context and stories, not copied content.
  • ✓A clear theme and geographical area with enough interesting locations for a worthwhile trail.
  • ✓Original photos and accurate What3Words / GPS locations for each Square.
  • ✓Safe, publicly accessible locations, with practical visitor information (parking, accessibility, transport).

Revenue opportunities

All Explorer Trails are paid products — you propose a selling price and the 30 Squares team gives final approval. You earn a separately configurable commission from each of three sources:

50% of Trail Sales Every time a player buys permanent access to your trail, you earn 50% of the approved sale price (ex VAT).
50% of Square Sponsorship Local businesses can sponsor one of your Explorer Squares (annual) — you earn 50% of that income (ex VAT).
40% of Nearby Attractions Businesses near your trail pay an annual fee to be featured — you earn 40% of every successful year (ex VAT).

Creator commission is calculated from the price excluding VAT. VAT collected from the customer is not included when calculating creator earnings. For example: a £5.00 (ex VAT) Explorer Trail sale with £1.00 VAT means the customer pays £6.00 in total, and a 40% commission is £2.00 — not 40% of £6.00.
