Team Building That Gets Everyone Moving: Discover 30 Squares
Finding a team-building activity that everyone actually wants to take part in is not always easy.
Escape rooms can feel cramped. Traditional workshops can feel too much like work. And another afternoon sitting in a conference room is unlikely to create many lasting memories.
30 Squares offers something completely different.
Teams leave the office, explore real locations, solve cryptic clues, race against the clock and compete for points, all while working together.
What Is 30 Squares Team Building?
30 Squares is a location-based real-world adventure where participants must discover a series of carefully selected locations known as Squares.
Each Square begins with a cryptic clue. Teams must work out where the clue is taking them, travel to the location and prove they have found the correct place.
It combines:
- Problem solving
- Communication
- Navigation
- Strategy
- Friendly competition
- Walking and exploring
- Plenty of laughs along the way
And because teams are out exploring real towns and cities, no two 30 Squares events need to feel the same.
More Than Just a Treasure Hunt
30 Squares has been designed to be more than simply following clues from one place to another.
Teams have decisions to make throughout the challenge.
Do they spend longer trying to solve the first clue? Do they reveal another clue and accept a points penalty? Do they skip a difficult Square and return to it later?
Those decisions create exactly the sort of communication and teamwork that makes a company team-building event interesting.
How the Scoring Works
The challenge rewards teams that solve locations using as little help as possible.
- Solve using Clue 1: earn the maximum points
- Reveal Clue 2: receive extra help but lose a point
- Reveal the picture clue: receive an even bigger hint but lose additional points
Teams therefore have to decide whether to keep thinking or sacrifice points to get moving.
That creates some fantastic moments when four people are absolutely convinced they have four completely different answers to the same clue!
Real Locations, Not Virtual Challenges
One of the biggest differences with 30 Squares is that the game takes place in the real world.
Players could find themselves searching for a statue, historic building, unusual sign, hidden landmark, park, pub or something they may have walked past dozens of times without ever noticing.
30 Squares uses precise location technology, including what3words, to help confirm that teams have reached the correct Square.
It turns the town or city itself into the game board.
Perfect for Competitive Teams
If your staff are competitive, things can get interesting very quickly.
Teams can see their scores build as they solve Squares, while organisers can follow the event through the 30 Squares Team Building system.
Depending on the event setup, challenges can include timed deadlines, different starting positions, photo proof and final leaderboard results.
It means the winning team has earned their bragging rights.
Photo Proof Creates Brilliant Memories
Team Building events can also require participants to take a photograph at each completed Square.
That has two benefits.
Firstly, it proves the team actually reached the location. Secondly, by the end of the event the company has a fantastic collection of photographs showing staff exploring, laughing and competing together.
These can be great for internal newsletters, company social media and simply remembering the day.
A Team-Building Activity That Doesn't Feel Like Work
The best team-building exercises are often the ones where participants stop thinking about the fact that they are doing a team-building exercise.
When people are trying to decipher a clue, racing another team across town or debating which direction they should be walking, teamwork happens naturally.
Different personalities also become useful.
Someone might be brilliant at solving cryptic clues. Someone else knows the area. Another person keeps the team organised, while somebody else spots tiny details everyone has missed.
Everyone can contribute.
30 Squares Isn't Only for Businesses
